TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME
PREMISE PLOT ARRIVAL SETTING NAVIGATION

01. ARRIVING IN PELEA
A cold wind singing down from the white-capped mountains which hang blue-black in the distance stirs your cheek, the tall grass all around you. A bough creaks as the wind makes it tremble, and the dappled shadows drift over you, leaves rustling. As you blink awake, you hear the quiet hiss of water over stones. You are not where you once were!

You and a large group of strangers are blinking awake, pulling yourselves up off the dirt, grass, and rubble near a small wooded stream. There is no evidence of civilization in sight, and as you exchange stories you realize that you must decide what to do.

Will you head past the trees and towards the mountains? Deeper into the forest? Stay put and wait for help to arrive? You might even try to meet everyone else, and either convince them to band together... or head their separate ways.

02. CITY SLICKER
There are many cities throughout the world of Pelea, and in most player characters, the Flaws, are welcomed as curiosities. From the lively, bustling markets of colorful Vairaya to the grimly efficient and stately mountain strongholds of Draichurith, your characters will find a wide variety of cultures and races to interact with and investigate. They could be seeking empoyment, answers to the mystery of their arrival, or a quiet place to drink away their worries.

Arrival

If I knew I wouldn't be standing around like an idiot, would I?

[The answer is delivered by a young man with his hands in his pockets, a sour expression on his face, and far too much heat in his voice for a question that could be answered with a far more simple "no, I don't."

He huffs, folding his arms across his chest and glaring upwards at the heavens rather than at his conversation partner.]

And you clearly don't either, which is just great.

[One of those types. Mai cocks a brow up at the reply, her expression souring just a touch.]

Maybe, maybe not. I don't know what brand of idiot you are just yet so who knows what your response would be.

[Scratch this guy off then as a source of help.]

Well I'm not an idiot, but you just insulted me so why would I be inclined to help further?

[Waver's temper flare ups had calmed for a while during the past few days back home, but being in a new and terrifying situation with strangers was a quick path back to the usual more childish behaviour.

And thinking that his logic is flawless with such a response.]
maipokerface: (i never wanted to say this)

[personal profile] maipokerface 2016-06-12 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Beats me. Maybe the idea that you're as alone as the rest of the people here?

[Mai points over to what people are around them at present, if they've not all wandered off yet.]

Or maybe the idea that you could answer a question without being a jerk? Good luck finding anyone to help you out with that attitude of yours though.

[Waver huffs. He's been alone before and he's managed just fine.]

I wasn't being a jerk, I was legitimately pointing out that if someone knew what was going on, they'd probably be explaining it by now. Therefor it probably isn't a stretch to assume that absolutely no one knows what's happening and that right now the smartest thing to do would be to get some height on the situation to try and find some sign of civilization.

[Which at this point Waver is pretty sure means climbing trees or going up those mountains in the background.]
maipokerface: (you never wanted to stay)

[personal profile] maipokerface 2016-06-12 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[She stands silent a moment with her arms crossed, still giving him a scathing look. A few seconds pass by before she turns her glance upward, following the lines of one tall tree nearby.]

You've got a point.

[Jerk or not, she can admit when a person is right.]

Climbing the trees probably won't do you much good though. There's too many of them around.

[Now she glances to the nearby stream.]

If I had to guess, I'd say you'll find civilization wherever that stream leads. Or at least a clearer vantage point.

[She's right about water, and Waver actually feels a little foolish for not thinking of that first. After all, wasn't flowing water the method he used to fin Caster?

He follows Mai's eyeline to the stream, briefly trying to determine which mountain it might come from. Foolish, but he wants an idea of how much steeper the terrain might get in case the only way forward is, indeed, up.]

Probably. It'd be nice to know if there's any sudden drops along the stream's path though. I don't think anyone's up for water fall diving.
maipokerface: (and you just threw it away)

[personal profile] maipokerface 2016-06-12 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
That wouldn't exactly be hard to spot before you came up on it. Walking with caution isn't the worst idea either.

[Mai weighs things mentally as her gaze drifts along the line of the stream. This guy might seem a little flighty but he seems to at least think before he acts. She glances back now to the rest of the people gathered here, some splintered into groups by now. If any of them have the same idea she doesn't really seem too enamored with asking them just yet. Mai's the sort who can typically take care of herself but she can't deny having someone else around for ideas alone is a little advantageous too.

So finally she directs her gaze back to Waver with a proposal in mind.]

I'm going to follow the stream out of the forest for now and see where that goes. You can come along with me or not, it's your call.

[She pauses and cocks a brow again.]

Can you fight any?
teratias: (09. Steal the artefact)

[personal profile] teratias 2016-06-12 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Waver is about to point out that finding other paths would be easier to spot, thank-you-very-much, but Mai's already moved on to what could be a solid path to civilization. The only issue is that it is probably going to be an extremely long walk, and Waver can't say he is looking forward to anything like wilderness survival.

Then again, what else is he going to do? The idea is a lot more straight forward and less taxing than heading uphill.]

Yeah, I'll go with you.

[But that second question is given a far more honest answer, mostly because there's no weasel room out of it.]

And no, I can't. But I have food.

[He pauses, gesturing at his backpack. It isn't much, but it can probably last a day or two.]
maipokerface: (i put my faith in you)

[personal profile] maipokerface 2016-06-17 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't figure.

[She pauses yet again, this time quirking a slight grin.]

No offense.

[And she really sounds like she means that too.]

I'd rather have someone around who had half a brain anyhow. Some fighters can get a little... well, brainless. I can't say I can take down everything but we should be alright.

[She's not precisely looking forward to wrestling forest animals or anything like that but she's not exactly afraid of doing so either.]

I'm Mai. [As in the merry month of. Considering her general demeanor and looks, she doesn't precisely fit that definition though.]
teratias: (05.Consideration)

[personal profile] teratias 2016-06-17 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's some offense taken - Waver abhors coming off as weak - but at least there's an immediate compliment to offset it. Few things make Waver happier than some level of recognition for his intelligence really, although he'd never admit it.]

Waver.

[A name that does suit him, even though he's been trying to change that fact lately.]

And yeah, I've known some brainless berserkers in my time. I don't think they'd be well suited to hiking and exploring.

[The notion of having to trust a relative stranger though isn't Waver's favorite thing in the world, nor is the easiest thing for him to do. Right now though, with no choice, he forces himself to accept it.]
maipokerface: (we sat apart and watched)

[personal profile] maipokerface 2016-06-21 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah? I guess I could say the same. Most people don't seem to think through things a lot though.

[Not that she's immune to that but yeah, she's not about to admit to that. She's still swallowing her bit of crow over recent events at home after all.

She seems to have no problem leading the way, talking as she walks for now.]

Not that I'm much for hiking either. I'd much rather ride than walk at least.
teratias: (05.Consideration)

[personal profile] teratias 2016-06-21 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Waver's hands find the pockets of his trousers, and he ends up flanking Mai's right rather than follow right behind her.]

Maybe the cities will have train lines or something. Or some other form of transportation that doesn't involve one's feet.
